AF-B-STEP at EHRA 2026 in Paris

At EHRA 2026 in Paris (12-14 April), the session “Europe Leading the Way: Groundbreaking EU-Funded Trials in Electrophysiology” showcased innovative EU-supported research advancing atrial fibrillation (AF) management, risk stratification and treatment strategies. During this session, AF-B-STEP’ consortium’s coordinator, Prof. Paulus Kirchhof presented the project’s strengths and aims – bringing together 18 international partners to better understand and quantify AF burden (the time patients spend in AF) and its impact on outcomes such as stroke, heart failure and quality of life. AF-B-STEP aims to establish uniform standards for how implantable devices and consumer technologies, including smartwatches, detect and measure AF, ultimately improving diagnosis and care.
