About Imperial

The National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) is a major research and educational department within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London dedicated to improving cardiac, respiratory, and vascular health through world-leading basic and clinical science, innovative education and extensive international collaboration. It is one of the largest centres worldwide for heart, lung and vascular research, combining cutting-edge laboratories, clinical partnerships with major hospitals (including Royal Brompton and Hammersmith), and a broad portfolio of translational programmes that span fundamental mechanisms to clinical impact. Its work targets prevalent conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart-failure, and arrhythmias – as well as rarer disorders like cystic fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. NHLI also trains the next generation of scientists and clinicians, fosters inclusive public engagement and contributes to global advances in understanding and treating cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
