About Novartis

Novartis is a globally represented innovative medicines company focused on reimagining medicine through science-driven research and development, with the aim of discovering and delivering transformative therapies that improve and extend people’s lives. Its overall research and development (R&D) organisation spans early discovery through late-stage clinical development and is built around strong collaboration between scientific disciplines, academic partners, and industry networks to translate biological insights into patient benefit across major disease areas such as cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, oncology, immunology, and neuroscience.

Within Novartis, the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease research and development area is dedicated to understanding the underlying mechanisms of conditions such as atherosclerosis, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and obesity-driven disease. The team aims to prevent, slow, or reverse these conditions by identifying disease drivers, developing targeted therapies, and improving patient stratification so that treatments can be matched more precisely to those most likely to benefit, ultimately addressing some of the world’s leading causes of mortality and morbidity.

The Translational Medicine research and development group plays a bridging role between discovery research and clinical development, ensuring that promising scientific findings can be safely and effectively advanced into human studies. It brings together physician-scientists and research experts who design early clinical trials, develop biomarkers, and evaluate experimental therapies in carefully selected patient populations to determine safety, mechanism of action, and therapeutic potential, with the goal of accelerating the delivery of effective treatments to patients while reducing failure rates in later-stage development.
