Project seeks to improve how AF is detected globally
An international research consortium has announced the launch of AF-B-STEP, a four-year research project designed to improve how atrial fibrillation (AF) is detected, quantified and treated worldwide. AF-B-STEP brings together 18 partners from Europe and Canada with the collective goal of developing reliable, standardised methods to measure AF burden, the amount of time an individual spends in AF, and to understand how this influences stroke risk, heart failure and patients’ daily lives, as per a European Society of Cardiology (ESC) press release.Cardiac Rhythm News -

AF-B-STEP: Globale Zusammenarbeit zur Reduktion von Vorhofflimmern und Förderung seiner Quantifizierung und Behandlung (DE)
Das internationale Forschungsprojekt AF-B-STEP soll erstmals systematisch erfassen, wie lange Vorhofflimmern individuell andauert (Vorhofflimmerlast) und feststellen, in welchem Ausmaß diese Last das Risiko für Schlaganfälle oder Herzinsuffizienz beeinflusst bzw. sich auf die Lebensqualität auswirkt. Das Projekt soll einheitliche Standards entwickeln, wie medizinische Geräte und Technologien von implantierbaren Herzgeräten bis Smartwatches Vorhofflimmern und die Vorhofflimmerlast quantifizieren. 18 Partner aus Europa und Kanada haben sich mit dem Ziel zusammengeschlossen, die Diagnose und Behandlung von Menschen mit Vorhofflimmern grundlegend zu verbessern.
